大友克洋の『童夢』が話題になってた頃、手塚治虫が大友の作画についてどう思うかと聞かれたとき、「確かに彼の絵が凄いのは認めます。でも、描けといわれれば、描けますよ。僕はね、描こうと思えば、誰の絵でも描けます」と語り、実際にスケッチブックに大友風の絵を描いてみせ、周囲の人を驚かせたが、その後ポツリと、「あ、でも、諸星大二郎だけは描けない。あの線は難しい」と言ったという
